If You Understand… from Tao Te Ching

Tao te Ching chapter 33 — Lau Tzu

Pennsylvania Echoes

If you understand others you are smart.
If you understand yourself you are illuminated.
If you overcome others you are powerful
If you overcome yourself you have strength.
If you know how to be satisfied you are rich.
If you can act with vigor you have will
If you do not lose your objectives
you can be long-lasting

If you die without loss you are eternal.

-from the Tao te Ching chapter 33
translation: Charles Muller.

The Tao te Ching  or (the classic of the  Way and its virtue)
is a collection of verse  for  Taosim. Taoism is an ancient Chinese Philosophy that encourages following the natural way things happen in life and the physical forces of the world around us.

Typical to our Western thinking, our response to a poem is to interperate it, break it down, and dissect it .. in our attempt to understand the
poems meaning(s).
